What is the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order? (RRFSO)

It is the UK legislation that covers fire safety in all non-domestic properties.

Does the RRFSO apply to my company?

The order applies to all non-domestic properties, including the voluntary sector and self-employed people with premises separate from their homes.  If you empoy five or more people you must document your fire risk assessment and any significant findings.

Who is responsible in my company for regulating the RRFSO?

The following statement was recorded by the Government in response to this question:

"Responsibility for complying with the Fire Safety Order will rest with the 'responsible person'.  In a workplace, this is the employer and any other person who may have control of any part of the premises eg. the occupier or owner.  In all other premises the person or people in control of the premises will be responsible.  If there is more than one responsible person in any type of premises all must take resonable steps to work with each other."

This 'Responsible Person' takes full corporate liability for the requirements.

What are the penalties for not completing a Fire Risk Assessment?

You only need to look through some of the stories on our News Page to see how seriously non-compliance with the RRFSO is taken by the fire authorities.  The Responsible Person can be prosectuted for failure to follow the fire safety regulations.  If you are convicted you can face a fine or go to prison.  For minor penalties the fine is up to £5000, for major non-compliances there is an unlimited fine and up to two years in prison.  For further details please see www.gov.uk

How can AGF Fire Protection Ltd help me meet my requirements under the RRFSO?

AGF Fire Protection Ltd provide annual Fire Risk Assessments for large multi-national, international and blue chip companies as well as smaller independent companies.  All our consultants are trained to the highest standards and have a wealth of knowledge that can only be gained by experience, all are ex-fire fighters, current retained fire fighters or come from a background in Health & Safety and Fire Safety.  We are proud to boast that we provide the most comprehensive service currently available on the market.  Should a site that we have risk assessed receive a visit from a fire officer, your AGF Fire Protection consultant is available on hand to go through the assessment with the fire officer, answer any questions and liaise with the fire authority on your behalf.

How often do we need to update the Fire Risk Assessment?

The Responsible Person is required to update the Fire Risk Assessment when changes are made in the workplace which have an effect on the fire risk, people at risk or a control measure, this ensures that any significant changes are addressed effectively.  Otherwise, the Fire Risk Assessment should be reviewed and updated every twelve months.

How much will it cost to have AGF Fire Protection carry out our Fire Risk Assessment?

Our Risk Assessment costs are based upon the size of the premises (ie. how many days are required to be spent on site) and the complexities of the risks associated with your scope of business.  Our prices are also a reflection of the investment we make as a company to employ only the most quailified assessors and maintaining their training and qualifications to the highest level.  We endeavour to provide a superior quality of service to all our clients whilst keeping our costs competitive.

How often do Fire Extinguishers need to be serviced?

All portable fire extinguishers should receive a basic service by a competent service engineer annually.  If extinguishers have been discharged in the meantime you should have them refilled at that point to maintain coverage of your fire risks.  In addition, extinguishers are required to have an extended service carried out every five years for Water, Foam, Hydrospray, Wet Chemical and Powder Extinguishers and every ten years for CO2 Extinguishers.

How much do you charge to service Fire Extinguishers?

We have a very simple all-inclusive pricing structure.  This allows for accurate budgeting of costs year after year with no surprise big bills.  We also provide a very straightforward written report detailing all works that have been completed this year and what is due in the following year keeping you fully informed.

How many people can attend an 'on site' Fire Marshal or Fire Extinguisher Training Course?

Our courses are designed for a delegate number of 12 - 15 people.  We find this size of group has the best dynamic and allows for all participants to get the most out of the course including the hands-on use of fire extinguishers as part of our Fire Extinguisher (Live Fire) training course.
