Case Study

Client: UK NHS Trust

Summary of Services: Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

Contract Start/End: 2013 – Ongoing

Location: South East

UK Sites Serviced: 1 (1000+ extinguishers)

The Challenge

In 2013, a large NHS Trust Hospital invited AGF Fire Protection Ltd to tender for their fire extinguisher maintenance contract. The hospital was facing several critical issues with their existing provider:

  • Rising costs with no transparency or breakdown of services

  • Lack of data: No definitive extinguisher count or service schedule

  • Budgeting difficulties: Invoices regularly exceeded quotes with no records to verify charges

  • Need for a provider experienced in working within sensitive and controlled hospital environments

Our Solution

AGF Fire implemented a structured and transparent approach from the outset.

  • Asset Discovery & Mapping
Our first step was to locate and identify all existing extinguishers across the hospital. We created a comprehensive asset list, integrating it with the hospital’s site drawings to ensure accurate tracking and planning.

  • Long-Term Servicing Forecast
After completing the initial annual maintenance, we produced a detailed 5-year servicing schedule, including all future extended service dates. This allowed the hospital to forecast fire safety budgets with confidence and clarity.

  • Flexible Scheduling for Sensitive Areas
We coordinated closely with hospital staff to carry out servicing with minimal disruption, adjusting our working hours to accommodate access to high-security or sensitive zones like operating theatres and maternity wards.

  • Dedicated, Enhanced DBS Technicians
A consistent team of AGF technicians—each with enhanced DBS checks—was assigned to the contract. This ensured familiarity with the site, seamless communication, and a clear understanding of the client’s standards and expectations.

The Results

  • Accurate asset register and integrated site drawings

  • Clear 5-year maintenance forecast, enabling better budget planning

  • Reduced annual costs through transparent, planned service delivery

  • No operational disruption thanks to flexible, client-focused scheduling

  • A trusted, long-term partnership—contract successfully renewed year after year since 2013

Client Impact

AGF Fire helped transform the hospital’s fire extinguisher management from an unpredictable cost centre into a streamlined, transparent, and budget-friendly system, fully compliant with the sensitive demands of a healthcare environment.
